3-Peat!!! After a long 2 moth volleyball season all the hard work has finally paid off with another championship title for the Brent Baguio Boys Volleyball Team!!!!!
The highly awaited ISAC tournament occurred last October 5-9 in Brent International School Manila.
DAY 1
In the first day of the competition we faced the host team, Brent Manila, for our fist game and fortunately we were able to win with a straight set victory. Our second game of day was against Cebu International School Manila. This team was sort of a weaker team than the first one however we struggled a little more in attaining our win because we committed quite a few mistakes during the game. However the win was also a straight set victory. Our final game for the first day of competition was against Faith Academy Mindanao. Our volleyball was caught in surprise because this team wasn't known to be a very good team however, they made a significant improvement. Once again with out strong teamwork and putting our skills into play we were able to capture the victory quite easily.
Day 2
The second day of competition seemed to be a more intense day because we were going to face better teams in the tournament. Our first game for that day was against British School Manila. This team also improved quite a lot from last year's tournament and again a harder task of defending our winning streak was placed upon us. Once again with our team work and the help of our coach we captured the win in another straight set victory. The second game of the day was against 2nd ranked Brent Subic. We faced Brent Subic in the finals during last year's ISAC tournament and we were able to beat them. This game was said to be one of the most anticipated game of the tournament because it was against the 2 power houses of ISAC Volleyball. During the first set of the game our team was trailing by five or six points. Fortunately, our coach made a strategic time- out and with it our team was able to pick up momentum and come back to win the first set. In the second set the score was very close with both our team and the subic team scoring. However, because we showed that we were a harder working team and that we had more heart we were able to win the second set thus making taking the win in another straight- set game. Our final game for the day was against a much weaker team, Southville. Though we won the first set, it was very disappointing because we made the opposing team score 20 points on us because our team got over confident and lost focus on the game. However in the second set our coach spoke to us about making a better effort and we blew Southville out, winning the second set and the game with a score 25-9. After this game we sealed our number 1 rank on the standings and the next day was the play-offs.
Day 3
Our first game on the third day of competition was the semi- finals match to see who would enter the championship game. We played the 4th seed Faith Academy team and we were able to win with another straight- set victory. I found this game to be one of my best games personally because I was able to execute many powerful attacks. I also feel that I performed well on defense because I made multiple blocks and received many of their attacks. After the victory of that game we were on our way to the championship game for the third consecutive year and for the second straight year it was going to be against Brent Subic. Our team was very excited to play this game especially for our seniors Elroi Caluya and Karl Torento who would have this game as their last for their high school lives.
THE FINALS
This year's finals match wa by far the most intense game I have ever played in my life. In the first set of the game we found ourselves down once again with the score being 23- 17. Our coach called a time out and told each one of us that indeed we are a better team and we have more passion and determination to win. After the time out was made we went back on the playing court with more determination to win and we came back from a six point deficit to win the first set. In the second set we found our selves in trouble after committing countless errors and unfortunately we got our first lost set of the tournament. Going into the third set each member of our volleyball team was very exhausted however we still had the burning desire to win. We were once again trailing most of the set however with one final time out from our coach we were able to catch up and turn things around. We tied the score at 24 all and fortunately the opponents committed a service error. This lead us up by one point . As my team mate served the ball the opposing team tried executing their play. As the spiker approached to go for the kill I also approached with intentions to block his attack. When he spiked it i quickly jumped up to block it and as the ball hit the ground everyone began to jump around in celebration as we won our third consecutive championship.
Throughout the course of the tournament and particularly the finals match I learned many valuable lessons. First of all, I learned that no matter what the score is you should never give up and keep pushing yourself towards the win. I also learned that with perseverance and hard work it is not possible to achieve even the hardest or goals. With this tournament I also developed special relationships with my team mates and we grew into a brotherhood of boys sharing special interests. This ISAC tournament will be one that I will treasure for the rest of my life.
CONGRATS! Nice reflection. Great experience.
